MiniMax M3 has the shape of the model launch builders want right now: long context, coding focus, agent tooling, and a promised open-weight path. The useful question is whether all of those pieces are actually available on the same day.
The answer is no, at least from MiniMax's own public artifacts. The company describes MiniMax M3 as a frontier coding and agentic model built on MiniMax Sparse Attention with a 1M context window. Its API docs go further, listing MiniMax-M3 as a supported model with a 1,000,000-token context window for agentic reasoning, tool use, coding, and long-context work.
That is real availability for API customers. It is not the same thing as an open-weight release.
The catch: MiniMax is selling access now, while the open-weight part of the story still depends on a promised weights and report drop.
The launch is split in two
MiniMax's announcement frames M3 as a model that combines frontier coding, native multimodality, and 1M-token context. It also says users can try the model through MiniMax Code, the Token Plan, and API services.
That is the access layer. The open-model layer is still pending. In the same announcement, MiniMax says the technical report and corresponding model weights will be released over the next 10 days.
The public repo is even blunter. The MiniMax-M3 GitHub repository points readers to a README that says "MiniMax-M3 is Coming." The raw README says the model is not yet released and that M2.7 remains MiniMax's latest released model.
