Adobe Firefly AI Assistant Enters Public Beta
Adobe launched the public beta of Firefly AI Assistant on April 27, billing it as the company's first "creative agent." The assistant orchestrates multi-step workflows across Creative Cloud apps from a single chat interface, available globally for Creative Cloud Pro and paid Firefly plan subscribers at no additional cost beyond the existing subscription.
The pitch is execution, not replacement. A user describes the outcome, whether turning a product shot into social assets or building a mood board from a brief, and the assistant handles the steps. It draws from over 60 pro-grade tools including Generative Fill, Remove Background, Vectorize, and Auto Tone. Adobe emphasizes that the user makes the creative decisions while the agent accelerates execution across the 25+ apps in the Creative Cloud suite.
Pre-built Creative Skills cover common tasks: batch photo editing, portrait retouching, social variations, and product mockups. The assistant shows its steps and asks clarifying questions along the way, letting the user redirect or take over at any point. Output saves directly to Creative Cloud storage, keeping the workflow inside Adobe's ecosystem. This level of integration is something standalone AI creative tools cannot match, but it also means the assistant's value is tied to Adobe's subscription model.
